Biogas and sewage gas operations

CHP for biogas and sewage gas operations

Operating a combined heat and power plant with biogas and sewage gas – efficient, robust, sustainable

Operating a combined heat and power plant with biogas and sewage gas is a future-proof solution for anyone who wants to generate their own energy from natural resources. The neoTower® was specially developed for farms, sewage treatment plants and biowaste utilisation plants to produce electricity and heat efficiently, economically and with low emissions.

Biogas plant from a bird's eye view

Application areas

  • Farmers who use liquid manure or plant residues to generate energy
  • Operators of sewage treatment plants that efficiently utilise their own sewage gas
  • Biowaste utilisation, with demand for own electricity and process heat

Augustfehn biogas plant

At the biogas plant, two biogas CHP units with 250 kWel & 265 kWth and 350 kWel & 380 kWth each are operated flexibly, thus producing electricity as required at peak consumption times. The heat generated is fed into a heating network with 11 consumers and is also used to heat the fermenters and the drying plant.

During the downtimes of the Flex CHP units, our neoTower® combined heat and power plant ensures that the biogas plant’s own electricity requirements and basic heating requirements are covered, thereby helping to stabilise plant operation. In addition, surplus biogas is not burnt via the biogas flare, but used sensibly as a sustainable energy source for the operation of the plant.

The economic aspect, with an amortisation period of 3.5 years thanks to the CHP remuneration and the heat bonus, underlines the profitability of the investment in a neoTower®. These economic aspects are decisive for the success and acceptance of such technologies.
